9:36 PM sg idol*
Hehe.. As Geraint's nickname says, Singapore Idol = Joke Topic. Are we lacking true talent in Singapore? I hope not, I see a great singer in Sly and a greater one in Taufik ;) So I'm biased. Haha.. But then again, aren't we all? =)
Everyone's watching it now(with the exception of Loo Kit, goodness knows what he's up to). Even my mom o_O Haha.. Yup. Singapore Idol has caused so much trauma(for the fans at least) and drama, what with Sly's 'scandal' with Maia, and controversy(Jerry Ong, was that his name? I forget.). ._. For weeks, that's all anyone is able to talk about. And now, it's the finals.
How exciting.
I'm watching not only because I'm rooting for Taufik, but also because I'm trying to spot Natalie. Everyone's wearing black and the cameramen seem biased against the strings, so it's kinda hard to find her. And as I watch the fans scream in delirious joy, I can't help but wonder: what are they going to do after this has ended? What will happen after the entire fuss has died down? Who will they hero-worship(or idol-worship) next? At times, I even hope that Taufik will not make the Singapore Idol, much as I support him.
I mean, don't you see a trend?
To quote one example: Clay Aiken lost to Reuben Studdard and he's doing better than the Velvet Teddybear.
Runner-ups are making it better in the music world(and not to mention acting, sometimes) than the winners themselves. I mean, I don't see Reuben hitting the Top 20 list. Hell, I don't even hear his songs on radio anymore. Whereas Aiken's heard at least once in a while.
So, what exactly is the point of this competition? To seek out talent? To prove that for every great person, there is always someone better? To pull up the ratings of television, radio, newspapers? To place rivalry against friends who support different people? Or it is just a show of typical 'I'm-better-than-you' syndrome? What do we have to prove? That Singapore can't come up with it's own talent show? Okay, so maybe the other talent-seeking shows failed(miserably, I might add), but I don't think that because everyone else is doing it, we should too.
Time to do some reflection, Singapore.
What will happen to the fans? The idols? The judges?
Who can tell.. We'll have to wait and see.
And like the judges said, may the best man win.(I hope it's Taufik heheh =))
